HOW THE ANTI-BRAKING SYSTEM WORKS:
An ABS works, the brakes are applied and released numerous times in one second, and hence, the system ensures that the wheels do not lock up under hard braking. The vehicle slows down while maintaining its grip, and the available traction also allows the driver to give steering inputs. This helps the driver steer the vehicle to avoid an accident. The advanced Anti-Locking Braking System hence offers significant benefits over normal brakes.
HOW ANTI-BRAKING SYSTEM WORKS IN CAR :
- In a car, wheel speed sensors are located on the wheels that monitor the speed of each wheel. The electronic control unit (ECU) reads the signal from each sensor. After the speed sensors detect that the speed of any of the wheel(s) is reducing drastically compared to others, the ECU sends the signal to the valves of the respective wheel(s) to reduce the brake pressure, and the valves get closed.
- After this, the wheels start to accelerate again, and the signal is sent to the ECU one more time, which in turn sends the signal to open the valve and increase the brake pressure, and hence, brakes are applied.
- The cycle repeats itself until the application of brakes becomes normal.
HOW THE ANTI-BRAKING SYSTEM WORKS ON BIKES:
- ABS works to prevent a Bike's wheel, or wheels, from locking during braking. ABS uses speed sensors on both wheels to accurately determine wheel speed as well as sensors to determine when a wheel is about to lock.
- ABS adjusts the braking pressure accordingly to prevent the wheel from locking and assists with maintaining the stability of the motorcycle. In many circumstances, ABS has been shown to reduce braking distance. Bikes with ABS technology are involved in fewer crashes on the road.
- ABS could reduce the rate of death and severe injury from motorcycles.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ABS ON MOTORCYCLES AND ABS ON CARS:
- While the basic principles of ABS, i.e. preventing wheel lock up and skidding, are essentially the same for all vehicle types, braking is much more complex for riders than drivers.
- Most motorcycles have separate front and rear brake controls. The brake controls help to balance the braking force applied to the front and rear wheels to ensure optimum braking.
- If a wheel locks up on a car, this may result in the vehicle skidding. If a wheel locks up on a motorcycle, this can often result in a loss of balance, causing the motorcycle to fall.
- Motorcycle ABS helps to prevent wheel lock-up and therefore can keep the rider upright.
- The technology can help to reduce braking distance and in the event of a crash, can reduce the impact of speed.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF ABS IN BIKES :
- Earlier, ABS was installed only in bigger vehicles like premium cars. Considering the number of accidents that are taking place in today's scenario, the manufacturers have started implementing ABS in bikes as well for the betterment of road safety. Even though it is expensive, the technology has been working efficiently irrespective of all terrains.
- As per the Regional Transport Office (RTO), it is mandatory to install ABS on bikes that come under the category of 150cc. Though bikes with ABS come at an extra cost, you can meet the investment expenses by availing of Motor insurance. By protecting yourself and your vehicle from any kind of uncertainty.
